Alex Pretti Memorial Ride

This Saturday, in hundreds of cities across the globe, people will be participating in memorial bike rides for Alex Pretti. On January 24, 2026, Pretti was shot multiple times and killed by United States Customs and Border Protection agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Alex was an avid cyclist and a regular at the Angry Catfish bike shop in Minneapolis.

2 By 2. Virginia’s new bill HB661 allows cyclists to ride 2 abreast. It recently passed out of subcommittee, and it headed to the state house. (waba.org)
4% to 13%. The increase in cycling in Victoria, British Columbia, in the past 10 years. This comes hand-in-hand with a rapidly expanding bike network. (nextcity.org)
Washington D.C.’s bike lanes. Rumors are bubbling that the Trump administration is looking to remove bike lanes around the capital because they “cause congestion”. (Streetsblog)
Seattle. This city is planning to complete its 4th Avenue bike lane, reaching the Space Needle by Spring. (seattlebikeblog.com)
New Hampshire. This state is considering legislation that would require all bike and e-bike riders to pay an annual $50 registration fee to pay for roads, paths, and trails. What a horrible idea. (electrek.co)
Houston. This Texas city is accelerating construction on its Buffalo Bayou Greenway to finish before the 2026 World Cup. (Chron)
$100 million. The estimated cost of the 2-mile Capital Lane development in downtown Columbus. The city is creating a walkable and bikeable downtown. Construction should start in December. (NBC4I)
$14 million. The amount awarded by the New Jersey Department of Transportation in December for pedestrian and bicycle projects. (bicyclecoalition.org)
$20 million. Bird and Spin have secured new funding to deploy 35,000 new vehicles this year. (Zag Daily)
February 7th. The opening day for a new bridge and underpass on the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail in Austin, Texas. These make the transportation network better connected and safer for users. (KXAN)
